ROYAL Navy bomb disposal experts have carried out a controlled explosion in Gower.

They were called to the beach at Whiteford, near Llanmadoc, following reports of three possibly unexploded devices.

A Swansea Coastguard spokesman said it wasn't uncommon for old munitions to be found there.

"There were reports of what looked like three unexploded devices," he said.

"The Royal Navy ordinance disposal team investigated and carried out a controlled explosion at around 1.40pm."

"We do call the ordinance disposal team regularly there."

Whiteford Burrows used to be a bombing range.

A spokesman for South Wales Police added: "A bomb disposal team has detonated a rusty, unexploded device at Whiteford Bay."
