CWM FX London Boat Show

Extract from the minutes of the meeting of the Board of Trustees (NCI) 24 January 2015

The Boat Show ran from 9th to 18th January. During the ten days, the NCI stand was
manned by some 45 volunteers from Worms Head, Boscastle, Charlestown, Polruan, Rame
Head, Lyme Bay, Portland Bill, Lee on the Solent, Gosport, Calshot, Newhaven, Shoreham,
Folkestone, Southend, Felixstowe, Mundesley and Skegness. Their help and support for NCI
during this period was outstanding and a number of visitors commented on the turnout of the
stand and the reassurance that NCI provides in looking out for them on the water.
Visitors to the stand included HRH The Princess Royal, Sir Robin Knox Johnston, Paul
Heiney (Vice Commodore Royal Cruising Club), as well as a number of useful and influential
contacts of potential interest to our Charity.

It was gratifying to note that other exhibitors such as the Little Ship Club, the Cruising
Association, the Westerly Owners Association and the Royal Institute of Navigation were all
displaying magazines on their stands which included articles about NCI. Further requests for
articles were received from the Yacht Harbour Association and the Moody Owners
Association.

A number of requests for information about watchkeeping and associate membership were
noted, and several have resulted in written applications to join us. For the first time, the question “Who are you, what do you do?” proved to be the exception rather than the rule. The majority of questions revolved around Channel 65 and “how do we use it?” Our A5 Channel 65 handout was therefore particularly well received and we distributed copies to a number of marina, harbour authority and boat owner stands. Another print run is planned following requests from stations and yacht and sailing clubs.

The Board wishes to thank all the volunteers, as well as Richard Hews and Mike Smith, for making this event such a success.

The Boat Show was attended by Rhosilli watchkeepers Audrey Frank and Dave and Joan Francis.
