RHOSSILI Bay on Gower has again been named one of Europe's best beaches.
The Swansea Bay beauty spot has beaten off competition from beaches in Spain, Greece and Italy to be named 11th best in the continent in the 2015 TripAdvisor Travellers' Choice Awards for Beaches.
Rhossili Bay was also again named among the best three beaches in the UK.
For the second year running, Baia do Sancho in Brazil's Fernando de Noronha, an archipelago with UNESCO world heritage status, has been crowned the number one beach in the world. A bay of crystalline water and soft white sand, the beach is surrounded by towering cliffs covered by vegetation that attracts a multitude of exotic wildlife.
Cllr Robert Francis-Davies, Swansea Council's Cabinet Member for Enterprise, Development and Regeneration, said: "We're delighted with the news that Rhossili Bay has once again been voted one of the best beaches in the UK in the 2015 TripAdvisor Travellers' Choice Awards.
"The iconic Rhossili Bay has held the accolade of Britain's best beach for the past two years and to be consistently voted by the public as one of their favourite beaches is a great achievement.
"Rhossili Bay has always been a popular destination for both UK and overseas visitors, but we've noticed an even greater degree of interest recently in this beautiful beach and the fabulous opportunities it offers for land and water-based activities or just for admiring the view across to Worm's Head."
TripAdvisor is one of the world's leading travel websites. One reviewer, who recently visited Rhossili Bay, said: "It's one of the many jewels of the Gower Peninsula. It doesn't matter what time of year you visit this beach or what the weather is like - it's always magnificent."
The Rhossili Bay pages of the official Visit Swansea Bay destination website at www.visitswanseabay.com attracted over 56,000 visitors in 2014.
The beach, which is the largest expanse of white sand on Gower, stretches for three miles. The combination of the sand and towering cliffs make the beauty spot popular with surfers, paragliders and ramblers. The wreck of the Helvetia, which ran aground on Rhossili Bay in November 1887, can still be seen on the beach today.
Among the other top ten world beaches were Playa Paraiso at Cayo Largo in the Caribbean, Grace Bay in the Providenciales and Anse Lazio on Praslin Island in the Seychelles.
Porthminster Beach in St Ives, Luskentyre on the Isle of Harris and St Brelade's Bay Beach in Jersey are among the UK beaches Rhossili Bay beat to be named in Britain's top three.
