Yet again our unflapable Assistant Station Manager steps in to save the day! And here's her account:
Never Mind the Cream Teas
Never mind the Cream Teas - or the fact that at the Monday 12 January General Meeting it was decided that there were no fundraisers in prospect - at 4 o'clock last Friday afternoon we found that we had a booking for a stall at Penclawdd Produce Market at 9 o'clock the following morning, Saturday 17 January.
The Market Committee has a generous scheme by which they offer, to a different charity each time, the franchise on tea and coffee sales - together with stall space and the opportunity to run a raffle on Market mornings. The Market is a once-a-month occurrence, the charities so honoured are many, so there is something like a two-year waiting list. Our last appearance was just after we had started up two years ago and somehow, in the intervening period, we had lost sight of our return match.
Nil desperandum! Before 9 the next morning Alan Richards (who has the display material) and I, were joined by Mavis Morgan (who had luckily raised the initial alarm), Pat Parker, Brian Rees (Darren had a hair appointment) and Marilyn Mathewson (volunteered by Neil who was on watch). Somehow we had assembled enough items for a decent bric-a-brac stall (in spite of the fact that both Brian and I had, severally, unloaded items at charity shops during the week), various prizes for the raffle, and the teas and coffees (tea bags, coffee powder and milk are kindly supplied by the Market Committee, but Mavis bought the biscuits) brought in over £50.00. So that team must have worked especially hard.
And by 12.30 Saturday morning we had raised over £200.00. Not bad for a standing jump.
Our next date at the Market, already booked, will be 11 May 2011. Does someone have a five-year diary?!
